Press Release 12/18/2012
A Presidential Proclamation marking October 2012 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month was presented on December 10, 2012 (Human Rights Day) to the Governor's Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence at the council’s monthly meeting. The Council is chaired by Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray.
Miss Kumu Gupta, a domestic violence advocate in Massachusetts, received the President’s Proclamation from the White House. Miss Gupta volunteers her time to help victims of domestic violence, and started the Donate A Cell Phone Program for Saheli, a South Asian Women's support group in the Boston Metro Area. Through this initiative, women in need receive a free cell phone with free 3,000 minutes air time to call for assistance.
