India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) held a Reception Dinner for the Chief Justice of India and the Indian Delegation accompanying the Chief Justice.   The Dinner was held at Mantra in Boston on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.  

The Indian delegation included the Chief Justice of India, Honorable Altamas Kabir, Supreme Court Justice, Honorable Swatanter Kumar, Attorney General of India Mr. Goolam Esha Vahanvati, Mr. Rakesh Munjal - Vice President of the Indian Law Institute,  Dr. S. Sivkumar -  Director of the Indian Law Institute,  Mr. P. Arulmudi – President of the Indian Justice Forum.  The Law Minister of India, Dr. Ashwani Kumar and the Indian External Affairs Minister, Mr. Salman Khursid were also scheduled to be there.  However, due to some unforeseen reasons both of them were unable to travel to the States.

The Indian Embassy and the Consulate General of India were represented by Mr. Pramod Bajaj, Head of Chancery and the Deputy Consul General of India, New York.   He was accompanied by the Protocol Officer from the Consulate General of India, New York. The Secretary to the Chief Justice, Mr. Sharma also attended the dinner.

The delegation has come to Cambridge to attend a Joint Conference organized by the JFK School of Government and the Law Department of the Harvard University from Tuesday, November 13 to Friday, November 16.

Mr. Amrit Soni, President of the IAGB was contacted and requested by Mr. Prasanth Nair, the Coordinator of the Delegation to hold a welcome reception for the Chief Justice of India.  The IAGB had invited all the Heads of the Indian Organizations in Greater Boston area, all of the Past Presidents of IAGB and all of the Life Members of IAGB. The admission was by invitation only.

The event was a great success.  The food was great. The arrangements were superb.  The One World Cuisine owner and management went out of their way to make this evening something to remember for a long time.  

The Chief Justice of India addressed the gathering by thanking IAGB and the attendees for organizing the Reception in their honor on such a short notice.   The Chief Justice, Honorable Altamas Kabir  entertained quite a few questions from the floor.  The Attorney General of India, Mr. G. E. Vahanvati also addressed the invited guests and answered their questions very deftly.

At the conclusion of the Welcoming Dinner the Chief Justice of India on behalf of the Supreme Court of India presented a specially made plaque to IAGB.  Mr. Amrit Soni, President of IAGB accepted the plaque and thanked the Chief Justice, Supreme Court, Members of the Delegation, volunteers and all the guests.
