On Sunday 10/14/12, United India Association of New England team joined with 40,000 people who came out to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston. The UIANE team had about 40 people who registered for the walk and raised $4000+ towards the walk.
A cloudy grey day with rain at times did not stop people coming out to support this great cause. It was great to see so much passion and so much power around this cause. The walkers said they didn't have what they have today because we walked.
The 20th anniversary American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston united the community to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about the importance of prevention and early detection, raise funds for the Society's breast cancer research and programs, and commemorate two decades of making a difference in the fight to end breast cancer.
The noncompetitive, 5 mile fundraising walk, with a 2 mile walk option, started and ended at the DCR Hatch Shell and raised $3 million to do the most for people with breast cancer today to end the disease tomorrow. Making Strides in Boston is the nation's oldest and largest one-day breast cancer walk, raising $52 million for the fight to end breast cancer since its inception in 1993.
The American Cancer Society held the first Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks in Boston and New Hampshire twenty years ago. Today, walks in more than 270 communities across the nation help to raise $60 million dollars for the American Cancer Society each year to save lives from breast cancer. The dollars raised fund groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat and cure breast cancer; ensure access to mammograms for women who need them; and provide free resources and support to the one in two newly diagnosed women who turn to the Society for help and support, including transportation and lodging during treatment.
