Five Indian-Americans from New England were among the finalist and semifinalists announced by The Siemens Foundation in 2012. There are a total of 93 students from 25 states invited to compete as Regional Finalists in this year’s Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, the nation’s premier research competition for high school students.  322 semifinalists were also announced.  A complete list is available at www.siemens-foundation.org.

“These students have invested time, energy and talent in tackling challenging scientific research at a young age,” said Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, president of the Siemens Foundation.  “The recognition they have won today demonstrates that engagement in STEM is an investment well worth making.”

Regional finalists are invited to compete at one of six regional events held over three consecutive weekends in November at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (November 2-3); The University of Texas at Austin (November 2-3); University of Notre Dame (November 9-10); California Institute of Technology (November 9-10); Georgia Institute of Technology (November 16-17) and Carnegie Mellon University (November 16-17).

Administered by the College Board, the Siemens Competition awards one $3,000 prize to an individual and one $6,000 prize to a team at each regional competition.  Winners of the regional events advance to the National Finals at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, December 1-4, 2012, where $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded, including two top prizes of $100,000.  2,255 students registered to enter the 2012 Siemens Competition for a total 1,504 projects submitted.
