Nirmala Garimella 05/23/2012 The first time I sit down to talk to Ravneet Sidhu, owner of the online bakery Bakers Bloom, she reaches into her bag and offers me a sample of an elegantly wrapped graduation cookie that she has delivered to a customer who were celebrating the graduation of their son. The cookie looked exquisite and smelled delicious and a bite of it brought a distinct flavor of oranges and spices. My first instinct was Ravneet was not only talented but creative too with the designs and flavors. I asked Ravneet whether she picked up the art at a culinary school or took courses in baking. Her answer surprised me. “ I started out with baking for a few friends and taking them for house parties . Gradually many of them wanted cookies and cupcakes on special occasions and asked me to do it. That is how I started experimenting and largely taught myself to perfect the artâ€. Many of her creations are totally improvised.†I do occasionally look online for ideas, but mostly I try to cater to what my client is looking for and customize on the ideas and the flavors to get the desired result†Her cookies have Indian themes like elephants and Henna designs, and others like wedding themes and birthday parties . Three years ago when Ravneet Sidhu moved from Chicago to Lexington, MA she had no idea that her passion for baking would blossom into a flourishing business. Her company ‘ Bakers Bloom’ is an online bakery which makes custom designed cookies and cupcakes. The artfully decorated cookies come in charming designs, made with finest ingredients including organic eggs, organic butter & madagascar bourbon vanilla extract. All cookies are individually hand-cut and hand-decorated with no trans fats and nuts. Cookies come individually packaged in FDA approved clear bags. Flavors range from orange spice, chocolate mint , cardamom , orange and lemon. You will find her creations at the Farmer’s Market in Lexington and at Wilson Farms where she supplies regularly. All her baking is done at her residential kitchen. Each order takes anywhere from 2-4 days since baking takes time and painstaking effort. "I always ask clients to call me two to three days in advance as you need to wait till the cookies cool before cutting them to desired shapes and decorating them “ Says Ravneet. She takes bulk orders for 300 to 400 people for parties and weddings and also custom orders for graduation and birthday parties. At the recent Boston wedding expo she catered more than 300 cookies and also generously gives to local school auctions. I asked her what it meant to have a small business out of home.Ravneet replies, “ As a mother of two young children , it gives me a lot of flexibility and fulfills my passion at the same time. I think it offers me a good balance of both as I love baking and and the joy in it makes up for all the effort†Ravneet Sindhu also shared with me with two testimonials from her clients. "I used Baker's Bloom this past Thanksgiving to make cookies as placeholders for our overly large family Thanksgiving dinner. All of the guests were really tickled by the beautifully decorated cookie and even MORE thrilled when they discovered that the cookies tasted even better than they looked! I buy the cookies whenever I see them at the farmer's market or at Wilson Farm and am just waiting for my next chance to place a big order for an event. Ravneet (the baker) is creative, professional and a joy to work with!" "I'm one of the producers of the film Big Top Without Borders, who was delighted beyond words to see your cookies at our fundraiser. The cookies were works of art, and incredibly delicious, too. They were completely gobbled up - the map of Guinea went first. I don't know how you had the patience to make them all so uniform, but they were extraordinary. I know where I'm coming for my next event! Your cookies helped to make our event very special. " You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
