Members of the Tufts Association of South Asians (TASA) put together a delightful talent showcase at Cohen Auditorium at Tufts University featuring a set of well-choreographed dances and melodious musical numbers. The Indian American student population that gets admitted to Universities like Tufts come with excellent training in the arts and that talent was very visible in their culture show.
The show opened with the Freshman Dance, choreographed by Kinjal Shah and Arshiya Goel. Anita Geevergese and Neha Kumar presented Taal Mela, a fusion of different dance styles. The talent of the dancers and the innovative choreography made this a pleasure to watch.
The event continued with a musical rendition of Silsila hai Chahat ka by Sneha Shah. The Innocence of Youth choreographed by Avani Patel, Tufts Tamasha by Rakhee Lalla, Arushi Singh and Jumbo Raas by the Tufts Garba team followed.
Abha Gallewalle and Shreya Ishita had a delightful music-dance Jugalbandi to "Maar Dala" and “Dola Reâ€. This was followed by a Fashion show. Garbhabhangara 2012 choreographed by Akash Mittal, Amar Patel and Derek Kallarackal, Pulse choreographed by Avani Patel and Sherya Ishita, Bhangara presentation by the Tufts University Bhangara Team and Open Bhangara choreographed by Michelle Shah, Derek Kallarackal and Rohan Rao formed a fabulous mix of dances. Bollywood fusion choreographed by Shriya Nivetia and senior dance choreographed by Avigya Shrestha, Anshika Bakshi, Nisha Mohamed and Natasha Malkhani brought the program to an end.
The program also featured guest troupes, the MIT Ohms which is the MIT South Asican a capella troupe under the music direction of Arun Saigal and the Tufts contemporary dance troupe, Sarabande.
The annual culture show at Tufts University is always a class act and the 2012 show did not disappoint. We look forward to what 2013 will bring.
