Press Release 03/28/2012
Come find out what ideas and businesses TyE high school students have been working on for the past 8 months!
Over 40 high school students in New England received hands-on experience in becoming entrepreneurs at the TyE program (TiE Young Entrepreneurs) which started in September last year. This program introduces entrepreneurship and business to students improving their self confidence and developing leadership skills and capabilities. TyE is TiE-Boston’s signature program for high school students with a mission to excite young people to discover the rewards and challenges of becoming entrepreneurs and business leaders. During the program, students attend interactive discussions and workshops on Saturday mornings which are led by industry experts and entrepreneurs. As part of the TyE program, students participate in a 10K Business Plan competition where they pitch their business plans to VCs and leading entrepreneurs. The winning team from Boston will then participate in the TyE-Global 25K Business Plan competition.
This year, TyE 10K Business Plan competition and Gala will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Holiday Inn Select in Woburn MA. Eight outstanding teams will present their business plans which cover breakthrough ideas in diverse sectors. Three winning teams will be awarded cash prizes of $5K, $3K and $2K at the TyE Gala & Award Ceremony which will be held in the evening starting at 6:00 pm.
We invite you to attend the TyE Gala on April 7th to celebrate the winners of this year’s competition.
Key Highlights of the evening are: • Presentations by TyE-Boston 2012 student teams • Keynote Speaker, Pedro Santos, CEO/Founder, OsComp Systems; 2010 Start-up Leadership Program Fellow & $50K Mass Challenge Winner • 2012 TyE Prize Distribution
The TyE experience is life changing for several students, some get direction on a career path, others get help with fine tuning their college application, and others hone their presentation skills. In all, the transformation of high school students into entrepreneurs is highly rewarding.
TyE Alumni have launched several companies; Mohini Srivastav and Kyle Kahveci started myskylark.com which integrates all online teenagers' activities on to one platform. Naman Bharadwaj launched a robotics company, Shaqbot.
The TyE program was adopted by TiE-Global in 2009. This year 20 TiE chapters, across 4 continents, are running a TyE Program. The winners from the twenty chapters will participate in the TyE-Global Competition on April 26th and 27th in Atlanta, Georgia. The winners will be announced at TiECON SouthEast. The TyE-Boston team won in 2010 and came in 2nd place last year.
We invite you to join us at this event, to meet and network with TyE students, TyE Alumni, Parents, Charter Members, Sponsors and Special guests. To Register, and for more details, please visit: www.boston.tie.org
