Dr. Sanjay Kaul 03/26/2003 Political compulsions often result in actions that are detrimental to the social structure in place. Lies, systematic disinformation about political situations and political mayhem has become the order of the day when it comes to the Kashmir issue. Most recently, the people of NH were saddened and concerned -after a resolution was passed and adopted by the state's house of representative. The resolution said, "The people of former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir have for the past 55 years been subjected to documented and unspeakable human rights abuses, including the execution of civilians, the rape and burning of women, the immolation and mutilation of children, the deliberate shelling of civilians by Indian military artillery, and the torture and murder of political detainees". The resolution is authored by the deputy majority leader of the NH house of representatives Republican Mr. Paul J. Guida and co-sponsored by representative Sharon L Nordgreen, Senator Lou' Allesandro (Democrat) and Senator Robert K. Boyce (Republican). The main voice behind the resolution is Republican Pakistani-American Legislator Saghir-Tahir. It is hard to gauge how Mr. Guida's noise will affect Kashmir issue. But one thing is obvious that his action to noise is clear. Which is why AAINA along with the Indian Association of NH arranged a meeting in Wendham, NH to help NH people to chart a course for reducing damages in near term and eventually identify an action plan. Prof. Sanjay Kaul an expert on Jammu and Kashmir gave an outstanding presentation and a retrospective look into Jammu and Kashmir. He spoke about the past history of Jammu and Kashmir, the root causes of the current problems that exist today and who the instigators are behind the problem. He informed the gathering how the minority has been displaced systematically from their own homeland and are still being terrorized through the reign of terror. He highlighted the problem of these refugees who are the real victims that no one really cares about. Dr. Himanshu Bhatnagar did an excellent job of presenting a set of recommendations that need to be acted upon like holding a Town Hall meeting in New Hampshire and present our side of the story. Ambassador George Bruno spoke superbly and recommended to set up a working committee. He also suggested to send delegations to various influential people and groups and work toward defeating these candidates at the next elections first at primaries and then at regular elections. Based on the recommendations, a working committee was set up to work toward a plan for action. Sanjay Kaul is Professor of Industrial Technology at Fitchburg State College. He has authored two books, one on Renewable Resources for electric power and other on sustainable mobility. He is currently working on a book on Kashmir and its struggle for control. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
