Chitra Parayath // Anu Malik achieves some success again with music for the movie Filhaal. Melody is back as are soulful lyrics. Papa Gulzar penning songs for his daughter's debut as film director, has come up with some memorable lines. This reviewer, habitually wary of sentimental drivel, was pleasantly surprised by the economy of words in most of the songs. Anu Malik's music itself is pleasant. One suspects, though, that only some songs will stand the test of time. Several are forgettable and quite run of the mill. The title song Yeh lamha is quintessential Asha, time tested and safe. No new ground is broken and the song can be labelled easy listening at best. Jaspinder Narula's Godh Bharai Song Sola Shingar Karke is average. Le Chalen Doliyon Mein sung by Roop Kumar Rathod is inspiring and Chitra in the background adds to the whole charm of the song. Chitra is outstanding, singing both Naya Naya Dhula Dhula with KK and the melodious Kyon Baar Baar. The latter, easily the best song in the collection, proves beyond doubt that she is easily the finest female vocalist in Indian films today. Palash Sen,the lead singer of the pop group Euphoria, one of the film's main leads ,conveys angst and loneliness in a promising rendering Dil Ke sannate mein. Well meaning Waqt Ka Saaya by Jaspinder Narula and Sonu Nigam fails to make an impression. Overall a good addition to one's music collection.
