The India Association of Greater Boston organized a “Meet and Greet” event, where members of the Indian community had an opportunity to meet the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Nirupama Rao.  The event was held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Westin in Waltham, MA. Catering for the event was provided by Bollywood Grill. Over one hundred members of the Indian American community representing several organizations including Saheli, TAGB, AAANE, Chinmaya Maruti, Gurjar, IAFPE, IAMV, IANH, ICC, IMANE, NEHM, NEMM, TiE, UIA and others were present at the event.

“Boston is very special to me since I have spent significant time in this area when I was a Fellow at the Centre for International Affairs (now the Weatherhead Centre) at Harvard University in the early 90s,” said Rao. “Many people including Puran Dang and others are close friends and it is a pleasure to see them again.”

Mrs. Nirupama Rao has had a stellar career in Indian Foreign services. She assumed her responsibilities as Ambassador of India to the United States in September 2011.  Ambassador Rao applauded the contributions of the Indian Diaspora and acknowledged the efforts of the diaspora in improving Indo-US relations.

Mr. Amrit Soni, President of the India Association of Greater Boston presented a commemorative plaque to Ambassador Rao.  Ambassador Rao promised to engage actively with the Indian American community during her tenure.  In a short span of just an hour, Ambassador Rao touched the hearts of the Indian community in New England with her warm and friendly approach.
