Press Release 01/19/2012
The Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence, Inc. (ASPIRE) is a non-profit organization serving Asian American girls and women in the Greater Boston area. ASPIRE is Greater Boston’s only Asian American women-specific program providing leadership and professional development opportunities to women from high school students to seasoned professionals. ASPIRE’s major programs include our annual Asian American Women in Leadership (AAWIL) Conference, the Youth Leadership Program (YLP), and the Speakers Series. ASPIRE seeks to connect Asian American women across generations and experiences.
ASPIRE takes pride in our identity as Asian American women. However, being an Asian American young woman can be challenging. We often face sexism, racism, pressure to do well in school, parental expectations, and pressures to fit in. As you go through this application process, think about your own experiences as an Asian American young woman. We want to know why you are proud to be you.
With financial support from the Gund Kwok Asian Women Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe, ASPIRE launched the Asian American Women’s Scholarship Fund in 2011. The goal of the scholarship is to support an outstanding and community-oriented Asian American young woman in her pursuit of higher education.
This scholarship will be awarded to an Asian American young woman entering their first year in a two or four year accredited post-secondary institution in the amount of $1,000. This awardee should demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to make a meaningful impact in the Asian American community.
