RASARANG School of performing Arts, Canton, MA, with their students performed dances for promotion of dances among all interested in dance as a culture.
Pallavi Nagesha, herself a student to Poornima, along with other students, performed rigors of several dance numbers impressively, at the Easton middle school Auditorium on October 22nd.
The composition of the troupe is a combination of 2 months to 10 months trained junior pupils like Christine Francis, with intermediates of 3 years training like Akhila Penumarthy, who performed together in Ganesha Panchratnam. In Mallari and Pushpanjali, three seniors are seen. In Natesha Kauthuvam, Alarippu and Jatiswaram all junior-pupils did perform enthusiastically, specifically the juniors in this program.
In ‘Rajeswari’, a ‘Daru Varnam’ with depiction of ‘Kaama Dahanam’ with ‘Bhavas’ three relatively senior artists did perform very gracefully.
In ‘Thillana’, Pallavi and Sachi Risbud performed this fast paced ‘nritta’.
In Bollywood dance segment, all students participated, along with a non-Barathanatyam artist, Naveen Rajur.
Over all, the program is indeed appreciable.
Technical support was given by Kedar Risbud, Kedar Bangalore, and Ramakrishna.
Dance Teacher Poornima Risbud of ‘Rasarang’ choreographed the whole program, with help from Pallavi.
Bollywood Music-Dance ensemble was duly choreographed by Aditi and Shachi.
Anusha Kulkarni (a Contest Winner of New England Hindi Manch ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’), MA made everyone excited with fun and frolic of Bollywood music, a good diversion for all, including the artists on the day.
Naveen Rajur, is a regular Bollywood dance performer at Rasarang functions of filmy numbers. He performed with ease and enthusiasm with Anirudh Nagesha.
Audience comprised of parents of students and their friends and relatives. They all enjoyed. Students performed dances, in due and relevant costumes and jewelry. Many cameras to cell/mobile cameras were on. Students are drawn from 5 year olds to 35 years olds. All students showed 'passion' for Indian classical dance Bharatanatya of Mysore style, taught in the school. Among the three senior students, Aditi Bhivandkar (who did her Arangetram a few years ago and is further learning for the last three years from Poornima), is also a good performer in the program. Aditi is also an assistant dance teacher at the school. Anirudh Nagesha has been under the tutelage of Poornima for the last ten years. Deepa Rajamani is a pupil with Poornima since last five years, performed her number. Students showed good enthusiasm with talents duly exhibited with verve, in ‘nritta’ compositions. Special mention need to be made on Akhila in intermediate category, in her ‘nritta’ and ‘abhinayana’. Medha Chandwani (7) was very good in body language expressions in her category, by virtue of her sincere efforts she put, as demonstrated. In ‘Rajeswari’ , a beautiful ‘Daru Varnam’, portrayal by three senior artists with proper ‘bhaavas’ depicted by surging energies quite accurately in presentation of ‘Kaama Dahanam’ of triple roles by each of three professional dancers. A good piece enthralled the audience. Special mention needs to be made of Pallavi’s performance of ‘Meerabajan’. The ‘Bhakti bhava’ indeed enthralled the audience as she enjoyed the ‘bhava’ herself. Shiva Panchaksharam was performed by Shachi Risbud. She is a multi talented artist, did flawless ‘Nritta’ in a most graceful manner. Some selected pictures are attached for readers benefit. All the performers were given Mementos by ‘Rasarang’ and every performer was at his or her best, cheered by audience as a token of their own appreciation of performance. After, dance performance was over there was traditional vote of thanks followed by light south Indian dinner.
