The scintillating glamour girl of yesteryear, Zeenat Aman is all set to visit the Boston area on Friday March 28, to act in Chupke Chupke, a Hindi play directed by Ramesh Talwar.
Producer Sanjay Girodia's 'Chupke Chupke', an emotional comedy is a Hindi adaptation of the Gujarati play 'Lady Lal Kunwar' directed by Ramesh Talwar with Zeenat playing the role of a mistress who forces her man to marry her under duress. The story is by Sitanshu Yashaschandra.
Incidentally, the Goradia-Talwar team earlier plays were 'Pati Patni Aur Mein' with Shatrughan Sinha and 'Maa Retire Hoti Hai' and 'Dr Mukta' with Jaya Bachchan.
Zeenat's latest celluloid offering is Kaizad Gustad's next film Boom with Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff among others.
Zeenat, who set the screen ablaze in the 70's and 80's had taken a hiatus from films for about 15 years. Now that her two sons are grown up, she claims to have more time and attention to devote to her acting career.
A million fans sighed collectively when a seductive Zeenat crooned Aap jaisa koyee in Qurbani, forgetting for a moment the typical sati savitri Hindi heroine. In many ways it was Zeenat who first portrayed the emaciated Indian woman in Hindi films, the characters she played were of women, flawed, strong, and for the most part believable. She played femmes fatales, but by some peculiar alchemy, they were no longer vamps, just vivacious, sensual spirits possessing a delicate inner beauty.
Her inimitable style and sophisticated sense of fashion made her a sought after star and she went on to work with the best actors and directors in Bollywood.
Among her popular films are Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1972) with Dev Anand, Yaadon ki Baraat (1973) with Vijay Arora, Roti Kapda aur Makaan (1974) with Manoj Kumar, Dharam Veer(1977) with Dharmendra, Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) with Shashi Kapoor, Qurbani (1980) with Feroze Khan and Vinod Khanna, Insaaf ka Tarazu (1980) with Deepak Parasher and Bhopal Express (1999) with Naseeruddin Shah.
Zeenat is supposed to have worked extra hard to get her Hindi dialogues fluent and flawless for Chupke Chupke.
For the media company PTI, bringing Zeenat to New England is a dream come true.
"We have always been great admirers of her talent and beauty and this seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to introduce her theatrical talent to the Boston public. We hope the Boston public will turn up in large numbers and welcome this wonderful star to our midst," said spokesperson and PTI partner Mr. Shailesh Baid. "Zeenat Aman was a trailblazer of sorts in the Hindi Cinema world and it will be great to see her on stage," added PTI partner Mr. Harbal Singh.
