Vani Nidadavolu 08/29/2011
Chitra Nidadavolu, daughter of Achyuta and Vani Nidadavolu had her arangetram on August 21st 2011 at Quick Center for the Arts, Fairfield University, Connecticut. She has been learning Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of her mother and Guru Smt. Vani Nidadavolu who runs her dance school under the name of Vani natyalayam in Trumbull and Monroe CT. She started learning this art form at the tender age of 6. Currently she is a sophomore with High Honors in Trumbull High School, Trumbull CT.
She started her arangetram performance with an opening piece called Pushpanjali followed by Alarimpu. She continued with Jathiswaram which is another pure dance full of graceful body movements and rhythmic foot work. Her Abhinaya or expression part started with Shabdam, where she narrated different stories of Lord Krishna with her graceful movements and facial expressions. Shabdam was followed by Varnam which is a challenging piece of any arangetram dancer. It lasted for 30 minutes which was full of Jathis (graceful patterns of movements) and the Abhinaya part regarding Lord Muruga or Karthikeya. This finished the first part of her program. The second part of this dance debut was more of entertaining by adding a touch of Kuchipudi style dance on a brass plate followed by a lullaby on Sri Venkateshwara. The program ended with Tillana followed by Mangalam with Pavamana Sudhudupattu. In all these dance pieces, Chitra held very well with her expressions, graceful body movements, and rhythmic footwork. The whole performance lasted for 3 hours with a brief intermission. She showed her stamina and enthusiasm consistently.
This program was supported by renowned Orchestra which included, Guru and Nattuvangam Smt. Vani Nidadavolu, Vocal by Ms. Ramya Sundaresan Kapadia, mrudangam by Sri. G. Ganeshan, Flute by Sri. C.V. Sudhakar and lastly Violin by Sri. Srinivasan kannan. Mrs. Gayatri Mahesh was a very eloquent emcee for the entire event, together with visual interpretations provided by Chitra's elder sister, Ms. Shreya Nidadavolu. The entire ensemble made this program a big success. With an audience of close to 500, the theater was resounded with frequent applause during the whole program.
