Amrakojon Presents "A Celebration Of Bengali Music"

On the night of February 9, 2003, a couple of young enthusiastic men and women who called themselves ‘Amrakojon’ had organized a grand gala musical event featuring over hundred performers at Kresge Auditorium, MIT to celebrate thousand years of Bengali musical tradition. An impossible dream and eight months of hard work. A sold out concert and hearts fulfilled. What began as a far-fetched endeavor last summer, culminated in one of the most acclaimed and packed South Asian events Cambridge has seen. Amra Kojon, or "a few of us", a group of enthusiasts from India and Bangladesh spun magic on the eve of Sunday, Feb. 9, taking a rapt, 1,200-strong audience through the vast medley of 1000 years of Bengali music.An ensemble of over 100 mostly amateur performers from New England and Canada presented unknown dusty tunes of Bengal to modern Bangla melodies in a four-hour sold-out concert at Kresge Hall in MIT, Cambridge. more ...
