The 2011 Boston MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee

The 2011 MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee concluded its 10 city tour this past weekend with two events in the New York & Boston areas.
With a huge turnout, the bee attracted some top talent as well as young and new spellers that competed for the coveted prizes and titles.
“This event is being recognized as the essential platform to get your first experience and also meet and interact with veteran spellers,†said Rahul Walia, Founder - South Asian Spelling Bee.
In New York, Arvind Mahankali from Forest Hills, NY was the regional champ and Nabeel Rahman from Williamsville, NY was the first runner up while Sanjana Malla from Haverstraw, NY came in at third place.
“It is great to see our youth demonstrate such talent and commitment. MetLife congratulates all of the children and their families who took part in this year's Spelling Bee," said Anil Lamba, financial advisor, Metropolis Financial Group, an office of MetLife.
In Boston, Surabhi Iyer from Franklin, MA was the regional champ and Pratima Rao from West Bloomfield, MI was first runner up while Anshul Joshi from Acton, MA was second runner up.
"We were pleased to see how many families participated in the competition and benefited from the information MetLife provided to help parents learn more about how to plan for the rising costs of education. As the title sponsor for the third consecutive year, we're excited with the growing success of the events," said Jeanine Beratta, JD, financial services representative, MetLife Financial Group of Massachusetts.
The winners received cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 respectively.
Children upto 14 years of age are eligible to participate and the contest saw spellers of even 6 years of age compete and make it past a few rounds. There are 8 more cities on the anvil and for more information and to register your child, please visit www.southasianspellingbee.com.
The top two winners plus one parent each from every city will be given an all expenses paid trip to NJ on August 12 for the Finals.
The contest will be telecast globally on Sony Entertainment Television - Asia.
