Rishi Chintan (ॠषि चिंतन) State of Unhealthy Mind (मानसिक असà¥à¤µà¤¥à¤¤à¤¾) by Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya (www.awgp.org)
The
health of our mind or the lack of it, is not identifiable with the
naked eye, so as a consequence of this limitation, we are often quite
unaware of this abnormal mental condition. On a careful and deeper look, though, we will
find that our minds are more unhealthy than our bodies. Mental
illnesses such as insomnia, memory issues, headaches, mental fogginess
and delirium are on a rapid rise in modern world. Our lives are getting sucked into a
downward spiral due to unhealthy mental conditions like excessive worrying (चिंता )
, fear (à¤à¤¯), despondency (निराशा), agitation (आवेश) and apathy (निरà¥à¤¤à¥à¤¸à¤¾à¤¹). Unhealthy
emotions (à¤à¤¾à¤µà¤¨à¤¾à¤¤à¥à¤®à¤• असà¥à¤µà¤¥à¤¤à¤¾) do deprive us of natural human
qualities like joy (पà¥à¤°à¤«à¥à¤²à¥à¤²à¤¤à¤¾), happiness (उलà¥à¤²à¤¾à¤¸ ), grit,
courage (साहस), generosity (उदारता) , kindness (सहृदयता) and compassion
(दयालà¥à¤¤à¤¾). As a result of this loss, our 'जीवातà¥à¤®à¤¾' (Jeevatmaa) is
forced to endure a subhuman existence (पाशविक सà¥à¤¤à¤° का जीवनयापन). Our
Jeevatama thus becomes inapt to benefit from the the great human
potential that
Ishvar has bestowed upon us. Alas! only if we could cultivate the
generous and grand human emotions (उदातà¥à¤¤ à¤à¤µà¤‚ उतà¥à¤•à¥ƒà¤·à¥à¤Ÿ à¤à¤¾à¤µà¤¨à¤¾à¤à¤‚), then we
could have lived an extraordinary life filled with happiness and joy,
which would be matching
to that of the great souls, even within ordinary living circumstances of
day-to-day life.
