What attracted you to the Brahmakumari movement?

My involvement with Brahmakumaris started almost 30years ago when I was a practicing pediatrician in New York. I was casually introduced to it through a friend and found the concept very appealing because it touched me both professionally and personally.I have always felt that my work as a healer had a missing piece and I found that by adopting to some their practices, my work was enhanced and enriched. In normal circumstances you give a patient a medicine and hope it will cure his/her illness. When I practiced the Brahmakumaris philosophy I found it helped  in three ways: it improved my relationship with my patients, I became aware of the power of meditation and I recognized my commitment through deep thought.

Tell us about your involvement with Peace Village?

Peace Village was started 11 years ago and it is a residential retreat that offers an environment of spirituality and a chance to explore your inner self. When you live a very busy life , there is a certain degree of stress and tension to it. Mind is an explosion of the thought and the values and experience that you get from the village offers a balance in your life. It is a very rewarding experience for many who attend it. The silence time, nature walks and the meditation sessions opens a new window of how the world is and provides you a tool to make connections.

What is needed in today’s world that is so fast paced and can induces stress in many of us ?

The pressure of work and family is tremendous. You need to adopt a meditative practice every single day in your daily ritual and give yourself pause. The spiritual life sources of the energy of the body and the energy of the soul both need to be harvested to enjoy a fulfilling life. That is what brings in harmony and peace to the world in general. At Brahmakumaris, we encourage this through various techniques that helps the mind focus on the positive so they can bring in change in themselves. Finally this is what leads to growth of an individual and society.
