Siraj Khan, an ardent lover of Bollywood music has dedicated himself to supporting aging and struggling singers who were great stars in their time. He arranges wonderful themed shows featuring local talent and uses the event to raise funds for his cause.
On May 14, 2011, he organized Hawaoon Ke Tarane featuring several local artists. This event dedicated to presenting the music of Geeta Dutt featured a variety of singers who entertained the audience with all time hits like Babuji Deere Chalna, Hoon Abhi Mein Jawan, Ja Ja Ja Ja Bewafaa, Ye lo mein hari piya and others. The event was held in the India Center in Shrewsbury, MA.
The event featured two young artists Salena Banerjee and Anusha Kulkarni. Ten year old Saleena’s dedication to the art brought tears to people’s eyes when they realized that just three days earlier she had tragically lost her father.
Since the theme of the evening was black and white, guests were encouraged to dress appropriately. Dr. and Mrs. Suresh and Pushpa Naidu won the best dressed couple of the evening award.
Siraj Khan in his inimitable style MCeed the event. Kumkum Malick, yet another delightful MCee introduced the evening’s program. Singers Sudha Rao, Salena Banerjee, Anusha Kulkarni, Vasanth Murthy, Salman Khan, Shua, Suzanna and Nayanika did a brilliant job bringing the feeling of the black and white era.
Over $2000 were raised to support the cause. Siraj Khan also shared a very special treat - a book biographical book on Geeta Dutt called Geeta Dutt -The Skylark. Almost all copies by the author Haimanti Banerjee from Pune have been sold. He also shared a unique CD created by Parag Sankla's Geeta Dutt - 100 songs, 100 composers .
There were a few prizes handed out. These were sponsored by Chinese Mirch, Punjabi Grill and Dunkin Donuts. Jawed Wahid was the Sound Engineer. A phenomenal evening as usual and we look forward to the next Siraj Khan production.
