Saheli , friendship for South Asian Women is planning a second fundraiser on October 2, 2011 at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA.
Last year's fund-raising event co-chaired by Dr. Manju Sheth and Niru Bhatia brought much needed funds and an office space for Saheli. The office space donation was provided by Drs. Geeta and Rajendra Trivedi.
The funds raised have enabled Saheli to provide victims of domestic violence much needed emergency shelter, obtaining of court records for a victim who had moved to India, setting up an office with extra computers and phone lines, provide legal services, hire two domestic violence advocates, pay for college fees for a victim and more.
South Asian Population has doubled in the last few years and so have the social & economic needs. Saheli services are required more than ever with increased need for trained advocates, safe house and shelter. Saheli team needs a direct 24 hr answering service and up to 50 advocates in the next couple of years. They plan to work on cultural competency of providers in hospitals & law enforcement.
Saheli is planning a second fundraiser to meet all these needs. Fundraising team is planning a fun night for great cause with ‘Bollywood night’ theme. Everyone gets a chance to dress as their favorite movie star and dance the night away to wonderful music played by DJ Yogi from Boston Sound & Light.
Tickets range from $55 to $75.There will be great raffles, goody bags, prizes and many fun things at the event. Please contact this year’s Co-chairs Niru Bhatia, Sweta Mepani or Seema Shenoy at www.saheliboston.org for more details.
