Following the success of its first chess tournament last year, IANH (India Association of New Hampshire) held its second tournament on Saturday, Apr 23, 2011 at YMCA in Nashua NH. It was well received by the community as we received close to 30 registrations. Unlike last year, we divided all participants in two categories based on their age – Under-15 and Open category. Pairings for each round was done within each age group itself. In effect, Under-15 participants played amongst their peers and same for the Open category.
Matches were played in 6-round Swiss league format with 30-minute time controls. Pairing for each round was done based on points acquired in the previous round. At the end of 6 rounds, participants with maximum scores in each of the two age categories were declared winners.
The primary objective of adding sports events as part of IANH (India Association of New Hampshire) activities was to make them popular among junior and youth members of the community. This was well-achieved by this event as over two-thirds of the participants were under the age of 20 and some even under 10 years! Orderly conduct and excellent cooperation from all present made it a smooth sailing.
At the end of the six rounds, following emerged as top players from each of the categories. Trophies and certificates will be awarded to them during the upcoming IANH Spring festival on Jun 04, 2011 at Nashua High North.
Under-15 Category Winner: Anish Thilagar 1st Runner-up: Ashish Dasu 2nd Runner-up: Sriharshith Pedda
Open Category Winner: Prasanna Gore 1st Runner-up: Kishore Chitrapu
We would like to thank Vishwa Krishnamurthy for helping us conduct this tournament and being the tournament arbiter. IANH would also like to thank all participants and their family members who helped make this a successful event and hope to get their continued support in coming years.
