Restaurant Review: Sichuan Gourmet - A Tasty Spicy Chinese Cuisine

Looking for tasty flavorful Chinese food in Brookline, Billerica, Framingham or Sharon? Sichuan Gourmet is definitely worth a try. The spices in this cuisine will please the South Asian palate.  I am not a big fan of American Chinese food for I find it bland but I was in for a big surprise with  the food at Sichuan Gourmet. The food was delightful. The owners Wayne Wang and John Li shared the history and secrets of Sichuan cooking with Lokvani.

"Sichuan cuisine is very different from cuisines in other parts of China"
says owner Wayne Wang, whose passion for Sichuan cuisine made him give up a lucrative career in electrical engineering to start a restaurant.
"We use a large number of spices in our meal. We are famous for our use of Peppercorn oil which  has a unique ability to not only add a tang to the food but also numb your tongue.  

Sichuan is a province in the Southwest of China.  The use of garlic, pepper ginger, peanuts and sesame oil is very common. There is also a larger selection of vegetables. Being closer to India even herbs like coriander feature in the cuisine.

The very first course, a  delicious appetizer featuring Bamboo shoots gave us a sense for what was to come. It was spicy but had the combination of peppercorn oil and sesame to give a tangy and flavorful feel. We were presented with a range of delicious, lamb, tofu, chicken and fish dish were delightful. Each was unique in its spice combination and really delicious.

"We went to China to find one of the best trained chefs from the Siechaun province. We then used our engineering training ensure precision and consistent quality in our food.  "The restaurant also had a nice function room which can accommodate 80 -100 people.
