“There has not been a kingdom more famous, more admired by the Ancients than that of the East Indies, and at the same time less known.†(Abbé Guyon, L’Histoire des Indes Orientales, 1744)
One of the finest illustrations of this quote, Pondichéry remains a hidden gem today. Also known as the French Riviera of the East, the Union Territory of Pondicherry still represents an unsuspected and unique example of two cultures, French and Tamil, meeting each other in the most harmonious way.
The French Cultural Center is proud to celebrate this fusion in “Pondy†with a soirée featuring local food, drinks, music, and an exhibition on Pondichéry’s architectural heritage. This exhibit, which captures the essence of Franco-Tamil culture, was first presented at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai!
This event is presented with the generous support of the India Preservation Action Committee (IPAC) and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Pondicherry Chapter. Food will be generously provided by Masala Art.
The evening will be preceded by a documentary and discussion on Pondichéry’s unique architecture. Please visit www.frenchculturalcenter.org for further information.
