UIA - A Delightful Diwali

(This article is sponsored by Masala Art) On Sunday Nov 7, 2010, United India Association held its Diwali celebrations at the Newton South High School in Newton, MA. The sold out event featured a dazzling display of song and dance.Kudos to the team of Ketan Dave, Dr. Seema Arora, Vinita Asija and Neela Gandhi for organizing a superb event.
The festivities opened with Diwali Pujan by Kumkum Diwali and party. The prayers were followed by a talent showcase which opened with Thillana in Kuchipudi style by students of Neena Gulhati. A lovely play choreographed by Ruchikaa Arora was a musical depiction of Sai Baba’s story.
Deepawali Dhamaka choreographed by Nikita Punjabi and Pari Hoon Mein choreographed by Amulya Deepak brought the bollywood brought a contemporary and folk touch to the event. Dil Bolle Hadiappa choreographed by Navin Rajayya had tiny tots in silver and black costumes dancing to a Punjabi tune. Ray Huard and Jharna Madan’s Ballroom rendition of Tum Mile was lovely while Aaja Nachale by Viral Dave was cute.
Ragini Jawa and Amal Jawa had a lovely musical rendition of Kajara Mohabbatwala. Vidya Iyer’s choreography of “These kids hate love stories†was really cute as was the wonderful Bollywood and Madagascar medley choreographed by Gulshan Dudani.
Dr. Seema Arora brought her special moves as she performed Desi Girl followed by a vocal rendition of Roop Tera Mastana by Rohini Mehta and Bollywood Dhamaka choreographed by Seema, Sarena and Neil Arora. “Kids just want to have fun†choreographed by Mina Chaudhary and Pragati Gupta brought the bollywood section to a close.
Ranjani Saigal’s students presented Bega Baro and Thillana in the Bharatanatyam style. Rachna Dhir’s Mughal Splendor and Aalok Fashions presented a fashion show. MIT Bhangara brought the event to a close.
“It is wonderful to see the great energy in United India Association. I hope this trend will continue and the association will grow each day†said President Dolly Raja.
