NASABA Annual Convention Comes To Boston

The North American South Asian Bar Association (www.nasaba.com) and the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston (www.sabagb.org) are pleased to announce that the Seventh Annual NASABA Convention will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, June 24 – 27, 2010. This Convention will offer substantive, legal, civic, and social programs of the highest caliber, in the tradition that NASABA has established over previous years. The theme for NASABA’s 2010 Convention is “Making History.†Noteworthy speakers include the Treasury Department official formerly responsible for TARP, Neel Kashkari, Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney in New York City investigating those who may have been responsible for the financial meltdown and the first South Asian federal District Court Judge, Hon. Amul Thapar, Eastern District of Kentucky. Well known Islamic feminist and scholar Dr. Amina Wadud and Hon. Vijay Chand Gandhi, United States Magistrate Judge, Central District of California will also speak at the Convention. These and other luminaries from the legal community, judiciary, political arena, and business sector will tackle current topics and lend their expertise to discussions during the Convention.
Esteemed Boston lawyers featured as convention speakers include state regulators such as the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, Sunila –Thomas George and the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, Navjeet K. Bal; leading lawyers including managing partner of the Boston office of Holland & Knight, Steve Wright, Assistant United States Attorney Aloke Chakravarty; Goodwin Procter’s Richard Soden, Dwyer & Collora Founding Partner and past- President of the Boston Bar Association, Kathy Weinman, , Jackson Lewis partner Samia Kirmani, and general counsel of BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. Lon F. Povich; and members of the Massachusetts judiciary including Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice, Hon. Ralph D. Gants; Massachusetts state court judge, Hon. Sabita Singh, and two Massachusetts federal District Court judges, Hon. Rya W. Zobel and Hon. Douglas P. Woodlock.
