Zaroug Jaleel Wins Junior High School Chess Championship

Zaroug Jaleel, a freshman student at Lexington High School, tied for first at the K-9 National Junior High school chess championship in Minneapolis, MN on Sunday April 11th along with three other competitors. He was crowned the National Junior high co-champion for the year 2010 and brought home a huge trophy. The three-day championship drew a total of 930 players from nationwide in six sections. The K-9 championship brought the highest rated kids around the country to compete for the National title. The championship was being conducted by the US Chess Federation.
Zaroug started playing chess when he was in fifth grade. He was the State Junior high school champion when he was in sixth grade. He aims at achieving more laurels in chess in the years to come.
Zaroug's Bio:
Zaroug is a freshman at Lexington High School, Lexington, MA. He was the Massachusetts State Geography Bee winner for the year 2009 and represented Massachusetts for the National Geography Bee (2009) and was placed in the top ten for the National Geography bee in 2009. The program was moderated by Alex Trebek and was aired in the public television and in the National Geographic Channel.
He was the captain of the Jonas Clarke middle school science bowl team that won the North East Regional twice and was placed second in the 2009 National Science bowl held at Washington. National science bowl is conducted by the Department of Energy.
He is among the top 20 chess players in the country for his age. He has won many chess trophies and medals in local and national tournaments. This is his first award as the National Co-Champion.
