A house concert is one of the easiest, most enjoyable, and most intimate ways to experience music. Rather than traveling to a concert, you invite the artists to your home to perform for a gathering of friends, supporters or family members.

MITHAS, captured this experience on April 25th at their first In Home series garciously hosted by Raj and Nalini Sharma at their residence in Sharon. Nalini Sharma is the Director of MITHAS and the Sunday concert showcased the area's rising stars who are still at High School, Sriva Raghavan as the vocalist, Rasika Murali on the violin and Ullas  Rao on the Mridangam   supported by their teachers Tara Anand and Pravin Sitaram. Sudhakar Rao helped with the audio set up.

The delighted audience was treated to some wonderful music as the three performed with great symphony and were perfectly in tune with each other. The pieces for the evening included:

·         Varnam – Thodi

·         Karimukha Varadha - Nattai - Adi - GN Balasubramanian - Sriva performed fast kalpana swarams

·         Bhajana Seya - Dharmavathi - Rupakam - Mysore Vasudevacharya - Sriva performed alapana, Neraval and Kalpana Swarams

·         Anupama Gunambhudi - Kanda Chapu – Thyagaraja

·         Ragam, Thanam and Pallavi - Shankarabharanam - Kanda Jathi Triputa Talam

·         Tillana - Kamas – Adi

·         Mangalam – Sourashtram

·         Sloka – Madhyamavathi

The musical experiences, the new friends, the connections made…were invaluable  And it’s so much to the credit of the fine performers and the value of an intimate listening setting, as well as the audience who came to listen to the students. Sriva Raghavan,a talented senior and the vocalist said, “ I have been learning Carnatic music for about ten years now. I have been to several wonderful MITHAS programs in the past with prestigious artists performing, so I thought it was an opportunity that I just could not pass up. It is also always a pleasure and a good experience to perform in front of a crowd .”

Geetha Ramamurthy, Chair of MITHAS, said” Arts and the Artists need patrons and MITHAS is pleased to initiate the in-home concert series, which we believe will not only provide opportunity for local professional and budding artists to perform for its patrons but also helps MITHAS preserve and present the ancient art form, the South Asian classical music.

MITHAS next big Concert "Nada Sangamam" a music extravaganza, will be held on Sunday, May 16 at 3:30 pm at the Chinmaya Mission, Andover, MA.
