Cleveland Thiagaraja Aradhanai competitions is one of the most prestigious Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam dance competition in the United States. The competitions are getting recognition even in India and winners are provided performance avenues at prestigious Chennai locations.
It is a great tribute to local music and dance teachers in New England that students in this area always so well at the competitions.
This year we have three winners: Amritha Mangalat (student of Sunanda Narayanan and freshman at Northeastern University) won the first prize for Bharatanatyam; Harini Rajashekar (seventh grader), student of Sri Vittal Ramamurthy won the third prize in Junior Violin Krithi Competition and Prayuth Naduthota (student of Shri V.K.Raman and Chandan Kumar) won the first prize in Senior Flute Krithi Competition. He also won special prizes for Alapanai and Kalpana Swarams.
A special note about Harini Rajashekar. Sri Shankara Television Chennai featured her Solo Violin with orchestra in their Bala Sankeerthanam program. The program aired two episodes one in March and one in April of 2010. Harini is also a member of the University of Southern Maine's Junior Youth Orchestra for the past 3 years.
