Kalavaibhav presented the mega audio-visual show ‘Black and White’, a story of an era of two colors that traveled through the life of cinema from 1948-1965. The show, a Niche Entertainment Production was a super-hit in Boston with the singers and narrators leaving the audience spellbound. Kalavaibhav in association with Magical Moments are bringing another Niche Entertainment Production ‘Gulzar – Baat Pashminey Kee’ to the Boston area on Saturday, April 17th. The show is conceptualized by Milind Oak who has already produced numerous nostalgic concerts. But when it comes to showcasing the work of the man he calls his single biggest creative influence, he knew it had to be special. Baat Pashminey Kee is an audio-visual experience Milind Oak has conceptualized and directed to pay tribute to Gulzar, the poet, lyricist, producer, director, dialogue, screenplay and short story writer he considers his idol. It is a concert that navigates the audience through Gulzar’s 50 year career using a combination of live singing, film clips, painting and narration. The concert covers his early songs and work in films like Aandhi and Mere Apne all the way to his Oscar and Grammy winning work for ‘Jai Ho’ in Slumdog Millionaire. For the project Milind Oak collaborated with music composer Pravin Joshi who scripted the event. The two of them spent months studying Gulzar’s books and films and also met multiple times with Gulzar, who did more than just give them his approval. He also gave them permission to use excerpts from his unpublished book of Hindi translations of Kusumagraj’s Marathi poems. While they have focused on films that Gulzar produced and directed, they have stayed away from critically analyzing his work or delving into his personal life. “It is not a biography” said Mr. Oak. Added Joshi, “We have tried to seek out the background behind his work but are not trying to find any new aspects to it”.  However, Gulzar’s fans will get to learn more about Gulzar, the man. Gulzar-ji personally attended the show in Mumbai on July 18, 2005 and he appreciated the show in these words “Using small flashbacks is my way of narrating a story. Today, Baat Pashmine Ki is my longest flashback ever seen. Now it is yours”. He has graced the show many times later including one at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London. Recently on September 25, 2009 at Ranga Sharada in Bandra he said “all the artists give me inspiration and enthusiasm and I would like to state that I do not oblige you, you oblige me”. This show will be a treat for all music and art lovers in the valley area and an event not to be missed.
