01/07/2010 Every 3 months, on a Sunday afternoon, Indian women doctors of various backgrounds, specialties and age groups (from recent grads to retired docs and empty nesters) meet in a warm friendly environment. We network, listen to a great speaker, and discuss various issues over a round table discussion and catch up over a cup of 'chai'. This group is managed by two co-chairs Drs. Manju Sheth and Deepa Jhaveri. Dr Manju Sheth is an Internist with Northeastern Health systems. She has trained at Northshore Medical Centre and been in practice for over 10 years. She works in Lynnfield MA and has a special interest in women’s health and Preventive Medicine. Dr Sheth is passionate about womens’ causes & works with various local women’s organizations and charities. Dr Deepa Jhaveri is a Podiatrist & foot surgeon. She has been in private practice for 8 years and has offices in both South Boston and Winthrop. She is on active staff at Boston Medical Center and Melrose Wakefield Hospitals where she performs out-patient surgeries. She is also involved with the state medical association and local charities. Dr. Mohani Malhotra is the Moderator for the round table & is a radiologist. The group meets in central convenient location like Weston Public Library or at a members’ home. Dr. Geeta Narayan has graciously hosted meetings at her house. The meeting is usually an hour of networking followed by an informative talk. We conclude the meeting with a round table where we exchange ideas and suggestions which is moderated by Dr. Malhotra. At our last meeting on Nov 8 our guest was a well known plastic surgeon from Lahey Clinic Dr Sonal Pandya who gave an extremely interesting and educational talk. Her talk focused upon non surgical facial rejuvenation, ranging from skin products and skin care, to the use of injectables like botox and fillers. She also discussed various applications of lasers. A few surgical options were briefly touched upon. It was very well received with requests for another talk soon. This group has been extremely successful since its inception and is rapidly growing. We work closely with IMANE, the Indian Medical Association of New England. It is a unique opportunity for women doctors from all different backgrounds to meet, network and socialize. Also, it allows its members a special forum to help look for job opportunities, discuss problems unique to Indian women doctors & be a support system. This group has created some long lasting friendships and camaraderie. They are very receptive to new ideas and welcome new members. The membership and participation in the meetings is free. The strength of our group is its members and women physicians are invited to join us and help expand this group. The co-chairs bring current and interesting topics to the table. They choose speakers and topics based on the interests of 21st century woman. Guest speakers are women who are well accomplished in their field. Some of our recent speakers include Kalpana Chatterjee on anti-aging and Sangeeta Pradhan on nutrition and Indian food. Upcoming topics include estate planning, fitness & yoga, financial and investment planning and women’s health.
