10/15/2009 The Boston Leadership Council of the American India Foundation (AIF) is hosting "Bow Ties and Bangles,†a fundraising gala on Saturday, November 7th, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. This elegant, black-tie affair will support the efforts of AIF, the largest Diaspora-led philanthropy focused exclusively on India. “The gala is an opportunity to highlight AIF’s pioneering work in India to help bridge the educational and digital divide by giving youth the opportunity to succeed with computer and internet-based learning,†said Raj Sharma, AIF Trustee and Chair of the Boston Leadership Council. Mani Subramanian, Chairman of Keane will be the Honoree at this year’s gala. Mr. Subramanian has more than 36 years of experience in the global information technology industry, managing divisions and businesses in the UK, India, and the United States. Prior to starting Caritor (which later combined with Keane), Mr. Subramanian was the President of Wipro Systems, and has been widely regarded as a turnaround architect in the IT corporate world. Victor J. Menezes, Senior Advisor for New Silk Route Partners, and Chandrika Tandon, Chairperson for Tandon Capital Associates, will be this year’s Gala Chairs. This is the third annual AIF gala held in Boston, and many of New England’s leading philanthropists will be attending this year’s event to show their support. Each of AIF’s Boston galas has been celebrations of giving, paving the way for programs in education, livelihood, and public health. AIF honorees, at other gala’s in the US have included Henry R. Kravis, Founding Director of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd., Jeffrey R. Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group Managing Director of Bharti Enterprises, and Sy Sternberg, Chairman and CEO of New York Life Insurance Company. The event begins at 6:00 pm with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and entertainment by the renowned Chhandika Kathak Dance Ensemble, a beautiful art form that has made a journey from ancient India to 21st Century Cambridge!
