Press Release 07/08/2009
We are pleased to invite you, your families and friends to the "Eighth Annual Convention of the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations" being held this year between 17-19th July 2009 at The Courtyard by Marriott, in Marlborough, MA. (http://www.aaane.us/welcome_message.html)
We will try to capture the majesty of Aligarh Alumni Associations in North America and seek to find ways that we can strengthen our network and to understand and address ways that we can make a positive impact at our alma mater. These associations serve as platforms, that enable ex-students to contribute to their alma mater and the society at large. They help raise funds that can be used to finance infrastructure, scholarships, awards, funding for inviting distinguished academics from foreign universities, etc
Alumni associations also facilitate interaction between the alumni faculty and students, awarding distinguished alumnus and tracking of alumni-sponsored projects. They also help bring industry stalwarts to the campus through their networks. They also raise funds for charities and organize awareness drives, etc. Some of our member associations have paid for the infrastructure costs of setting up, maintaining or expanding "Knowledge Centers" like schools, libraries, computer labs, coaching and guidance centers, etc. A large majority of these projects have taken place in challenged areas. Our alumni associations have also intervened on policy issues that have a direct bearing on our alma mater. Voicing concerns to maintain the minority status of AMU, opening new departments or additional courses in different faculties are some areas which have seen a remarkable input from alumni.
Alumni conventions provides an opportunity to organize ourselves on one platform, brain-storm and generate awareness of the issues that we are facing in today’s world and develop networking. This is the only time of the year that Aligarians of all affiliations and professional backgrounds assemble together at one place. This is in itself a towering and crucial achievement and will go a long way towards building an effective and strong organization. At the convention, representatives of various AMUAAs, researchers, business executives and academic experts will analyze and offer solutions to challenges faced by AMU, its student body and alumni.
Why Attend?
The first and perhaps the most important reason is interactive social gathering which will provide opportunities in networking with individuals and groups of diverse professional backgrounds. The convention will also give us an opportunity to stay informed, share ideas with others allowing us to better organize and pool our resources. It will provide a forum for activists to gather and share ideas; reflect how each individual can contribute to the efforts for building a strong organization and work towards promoting education among the underprivileged class of the society. Last but not the least, you will have a reunion, interact with distinguished speakers, enjoy cultural & literary programs, and recognition award presentations at the banquet dinner which is the highlight of the convention. Prof. D. P. Agrawal, Chairman, UPSC, Ms. Meera Shankar, India's Ambassador to USA, Mr. M. A. A. Fatmi, Ex Minister HRD, Government of India and Nadeem Tarin, Philanthropist and Entrepreneur are confirmed guests. This year's exciting program includes the staging of the Solo Urdu play "Maulana Azad", performed by Padam Shri Tom Alter, the great Indian actor. "Maulana Azad" is based on the book "India wins Freedom" and researched and directed by Aligarian Dr. Sayeed Alam. (This event has been made possible by a generous travel grant by the Indian Council of Cultural relations). http://www.iccrindia.org There will be lots of activities for adults as well as children so bring your family and friends.
