"Passion, Fashion and Compassion" It's May and summer is officially here. 'Tis the season for weddings, graduations and anniversaries...what will you be wearing? Shubrah.com has the Spring/ Summer 09 collection on-line, now. Eco-friendly fashions and one of kind designs, from local entrepreneur, Shubhra Bhattacharya Chandra. The business is committed to responsible and sustainable business practices, eco-friendly and organic fabrics and giving back to the community. There is a collection of one of a kind dresses, tops and caftans for the trunk show, also coming up in May. Pack for an out of town weekend event, all you need is a carry on with the gossamer chiffon embroidered caftans and soft dresses. Throw in a couple of the beautiful striped silk shirts for your man- its spice routes and palm trees! Or Italian villas and gladiators (we mean the type of sandals you will be wearing!). What makes this business eco-friendly and sustainable? The fashions are all on-line. The business does not have brick and mortar store fronts, no mailers, catalogs or promotional papers are used. All packing for shipping is recycled. All bags used for customer purchases are cloth and can be reused. Advertising is done via the web, e-mail, viral marketing and social media. Fabrics are 100% organic cottons, handmade silks, hand done embroideries. All linings are cotton. No synthetic fabrics are used in the collection. Saris are recycled and reused to create unique wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses for discerning brides. Hang tags on the garments are made with recycled paper. Garments are made in small lots and never reordered. The company also gives a percentage of their profits to create awareness and do something meaningful in the local community and the world. In 2008-09 we gave donations in the form of money, fashions to auction and our time to the following organizations-- * Chintan.org- Non-profit based in Delhi, India- that works to clean up urban waste, educate rag-pickers and create products out of recycled plastic bags. These products are available for sale on our site. * American India Foundation- (AIF) -works towards accelerating social and economic change in India. * Lexington Education Foundation- supports educational excellence by awarding grants for creative programs, instructional resources and innovative materials in Lexington, MA. * Agape International-- helping the poorest children in the world suffering as a result of the global AIDS crisis. * Ronan McElligott Memorial Playground Committee, Westford, MA. The communities first barrier free children's playground for handicapped or wheelchair bound kids. As usual, Shubrah.com will be giving a percentage of the profits to a worthy non-profit.
