Split Personality
Such a little girl,
But am I?
Stuck between two worlds,
And I don’t know why.
Maturity came early,
A side effect of life.
Wasn’t quick and painless,
Some moderate strife.
Pushed to act
Mature and older than I am,
But youth is catching up…
Don’t know if I can.
Then there’s a command to be young,
To remember my place,
To enjoy while I can,
Not let childhood go to waste.
Two conflicting signals,
Their origins the same,
Hypocritical it seems,
And there’s no one blame.
The fact remains I’m confused,
I want the privileges of both.
Must I be one or the other?
To chose I am loath.
Will I look back and be saddened
That I didn’t take the chance
To revel at my youth,
To sway at the slow dance?
Or will I wonder
What it would be like
To act more Adult,
To leap ahead in life?
A decision is to be made,
But I doubt I ever will.
Perhaps this is how
I can enjoy either path’s thrills.
Screaming Eyes
My smile is a line of perfect teeth
Striving, biting admirable feats.
My laugh will twinkle loud and clear
But it’s dripping with a subtle fear.
Wanna know why?
Look at my eyes
You’ll be surprised
They’re brainwashed; my vision’s blurred.
Bowing down to a fearful authority
I strive to conform to the lovely majority
Back straight
Shoulders arched
In a line
Goes the eerie march.
I follow.
Lipstick perfect
Eyebrows plucked,
Manicured nails
Rosy-red blush.
I follow.
My eyes are the only place
The makeup hasn’t yet defaced.
Look at them; really stare
This chance is painfully rare.
Because those eyes look at a perfect world,
They’re brainwashed; my vision’s blurred.
On a diet of intentions that are good,
These eyes feast on sorrow as food.
If you watch from far away,
You’ll see nothing, there’s no gain…
You’re a coward but so is the world
My cries for help still go unheard.
After a while I’ll close my eyes,
Hazy and distorted
It all goes by.
Now too weak to even cry,
I’m sorry I ever tried.
I’ll close my eyes.
I’ve closed my eyes.
