Usha Reddy, by
all accounts, is not happy. Neither is her daughter, Deepa. Attention is drawn
to their non-attendance at the birthday party of Shanti Menon, one of Deepa's
closest friends. As speculation mounts among those present, the dark truth that
envelopes the lives of Usha and Deepa is revealed directly, with glimpses afforded into their every day, not least
through the terrifying presence that is suffocating them.
The Harvard South Asian Association (SAA) and South Asian American Theatre (SAATh)
present Jyoti Thottam's and S. Karthick Ramakrishnan's
unsettling play "Interrogations,' a close look at an issue about which the
South Asian community continues to stay silent, that of domestic violence.
Based upon a true story that occurred in Massachusetts a few years ago, the play
seeks to speak to our consciences, and marshal our resolve to take on an evil
that we can, and must confront.
Interrogations runs from November 7th (Thursday) to November 9th (Saturday) at
the Old Library Theatre Space, Leverett House, Mill Street, Harvard University,
Cambridge, MA 02138. All performances are at 7:30 pm( on Saturday the play will be staged at 7pm), with an additional
performance on Saturday the 9th at 2:00 pm.
Tickets are available starting Thursday, October 24th at the Harvard Holyoke
Box Office (617.496.2222).
The ticket
prices are: $4 (Leverett House residents, children, senior citizens), $5
students, $6 adults.
Directions:
Driving: From Harvard Square, go down Brattle Street from Massachusetts Avenue,
and turn left onto Mount Auburn Street. Cross J.F.K Street and
drive down Mount Auburn Street to De Wolfe Street. Turn right onto De Wolfe
Street at the lights, and Old Leverett will be one block down, at
the corner of De Wolfe and Mill Streets. Parking meters are to be found along
the length of De Wolfe Street and on some adjoining streets. The
entrance area to the Old Library theatre is half way down the length of the
building, on Mill Street.
Public Transport: Take the T (Red-line) or bus to Harvard Square. Emerging at
the island next to Out of Town News, take an about turn, and walk down
Massachusetts Avenue (past Au Bon Pain), several blocks until you come to the
Harvard Book Store at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and
Plympton Street. Turn right onto Plympton Street and walk down virtually all of
its length, crossing Bow Street and Mount Auburn Street, and turn
left onto Mill Street. The entrance to the Old Library will come to your right
as you walk down Mill Street along the length of the building.
