10/29/2008 Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon speaks as part of the “Legends and Leaders†program on Sunday, Nov 2, 2008 TiE-Boston’s “Legends and Leaders†features Ms. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Chairman & Managing Director of Biocon Ltd. Dr Mazumdar-Shaw trained as a brew master from the University of Ballarat, Melbourne. She co-founded Biocon India in 1978. Biocon’s fully integrated business model spans the entire drug value chain, from pre-clinical discovery to clinical development and through to commercialization. Indian biotechnology firm Biocon has been ranked the 7th-largest employer and 20th largest Biotech company globally (based on revenues) among the top 100 biotechnology companies surveyed by Med Ad News. In 2004, Shaw became India’s richest woman. Shaw is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is also a Global Charter Member of TiE.
