When you hear the name Karan Johar , you automatically expect great music. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kaal, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai have set the expectations high and Vishal-Shekhar have a high bar to set in Dostana.

The film starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra appears to be a romantic comedy for youngsters and so is its music. The movie’s songs are created by Vishal-Shekhar and the duo has rendered some really fine tunes. Lyrics are penned by Anvita Dutt Guptan and Kumar.

A love song with some unconventional lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan, 'Jaane Kyun' is an excellent track that gives Dostana a kick start. If the catchy tune isn't good enough, it is the singer who comes behind the mike for this youthful track, who surprises the most. He is none other than Vishal Dadlani himself who shows an entirely different facet of his personality. He is confident enough to entrust himself with the responsibility of going solo for this flagship number of Dostana and has done a great job with it. It is a great number that is being used to sell this album.

‘Desi Girl’ – a hip-hop cum bhangra number sung well by Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal Dadlani. This song is a very peppy one with good beats, which can make you tap your feet.  We can expect to hear it at the parties around town.

‘Khabar Nahi’ comes next and is vocalized by Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestant Amanat Ali along with Shreya Ghosal and Vishal Dadlani. And those who have heard Amanat can say that he has done justice to the song which starts quite a lot like ‘ Mitwa’ from ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’. The song is a nice blend of Sufi and Bollywood kinda music. The track indeed is thus one of the best in the album.

One of the best tunes and lyrics is in the next song  'Kuch Kum'. A poetic track which moves at a serene pace and has in it the potential to scale the kind of height which the title song of 'Kal Ho Na Ho' did.  'Kuch Kum' is easily the best of the lot and is immensely likeable within first listening itself. It is a kind of number that you don't really want to over analyze and instead just hear it to enjoy it to the fullest. Shaan is brilliant
‘Maa Da Laadla’ which is a Punjabi track, which seems a situational track. It’s an ordinary, loud song, with a very different prelude, which can remind you of Crazy frog. The singer Saleem gets to render the number and he does that with a great enthusiastic fervor.

Next comes the much hyped item number in Dostana which features Shilpa Shetty jiving along with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham on the Miami beach. Titled 'Shut Up & Bounce', the song may sound like a routine/typical dance number but that doesn't come in the way of the potential it holds as far becoming popular in days to come. With Sunidhi Chauhan leading from the front and Vishal Dadlani providing additional vocals, 'Shut Up & Bounce' written by Anvita is all set to be an eye candy all the way, courtesy Miss Shetty and other bevy of beauties expected to dominate the frames captured on the Miami beach.

On the whole, the album features some of the nicest groovy numbers for this festive season. A great listen
