In a landmark decision in December 2006 the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts voted into existence the establishment of the Asian American Commission (AAC). The AAC consists of 20 commissioners appointed by 7 appointing authorities: The Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, State Auditor, Senate President and Speaker of the House. The AAC serves to represent one of the fastest growing diverse groups of Americans in MA.
The Commission’s Mission is:
“To recognize and highlight the vital contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic and political life of the Commonwealth; To identify and address the needs and challenges facing the residents of Asian ancestry; And to promote the well being of this dynamic and diverse community and thereby, advance the interests of all persons who call Massachusetts home.â€
We are reaching out to you today as you are a member of the Asian American business community in the Commonwealth. One specific program in 2008 being led by the Economic Development Committee of the AAC is to provide the appointing authorities information on the needs and issues of the Asian American business community. This will help in developing programs and identify opportunities for the State and our communities to promote the economic well being of Asian American businesses and also that of the Commonwealth.
To this end, we are requesting your inputs, ideas and comments by way of this Needs Questionnaire and would appreciate your response in the next 30 days. The committee plans to start its work in August 2008 and complete its report this fall by November and the AAC will present its findings publicly by year end. The report will be available to all participants. Your own specific answers will not be used for commercial purposes. Only the analysis and conclusions will highlight and reference industry and regional findings and data will be anonymous.
