Indian American children were among top scorers in the talent search sponsored by John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). CTY identifies America’s top students in Grades 2-6 and provides programs, services and resources to help them make the most of their special academic abilities. These very bright young people were invited to participate in CTY’s talent search because they scored 95th percentile or higher on a nationally normed standardized test.  Over 63,000 students from 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as students from 90 countries participated in this year's talent searches.

Second to sixth graders who took the SCAT test, an above-level test similar to SAT but scaled for younger students, and scored approximately in the top 25 percent compared to all students in the search were recognized at an awards ceremony on June 7, 2008 at Suffolk University. Other ceremonies were held at different locations all over New England to recognize students from different regions. The group taking the SCAT is a self- selected group who are motivated learners.

Overall, Nisha Devasia, a third grader from Bicentennial Elementary School, Nashua, NH won the first place for Math.

Some of the other Indian-American students recognized for receiving High Honors (a score of 485 or above) were:

Archana Apte – Walpole
Rohit Chaparala – Canton
Vignesh Chockalingam – Arlington
Rita Coelho – Boston
Pranav Ghatraju – Westford
Kiran Gite – Arlington
Aruni Kacker – Mansfield
Tejas Kelkar – Needham
Rohan Lewis - Middleton
