Press Release 04/16/2008
Pradip Kumar Ghosh, a resident of Worcester, MA, employed with Morgan Construction Co. (a rolling mill equipment design and manufacturing unit in the steel industry) has recently been honored with United States Patent No. US 7,228,972 B2 dated 12 June 2007 for his invention on “Short Bar Separation and Recovery System and Method†related to the automatic handling of short steel products in sophisticated rolling mill units. The success of this Patent is further reflected in its immediate application in 3 new high productivity rolling mill units (one in Argentina and two in India, supplied and installed by Morgan, due for commissioning early 2009). An abstract from this Patent is reproduced below:
A system and method are disclosed for separating and recovering short bars from full length bars in a rolling mill. The bars are initially conveyed on a run-out roller table from a shear to a transfer station where they are accumulated in a layer. The layer is transferred laterally from the transfer station onto a separation roller table at a separation station. An elevator lifts the tail ends of the full length bars off of the separation roller table, and the separation roller table then conveys the short bars to a recovery station. The remaining full length bars are then returned to the transfer station, from where they are sent on to a bundling station.
The above process will result in nearly 100% recovery of the residual products along with the prime products for the Customer.
Pradip Kumar Ghosh is a graduate engineer from I.I.T., Kharagpur, India. After working in operations of rolling mills at IISCo, Burnpur, India for 7 years, he worked with M.N. Dastur & Co. Ltd., Kolkata, India (Consulting Engineers) for 18 years as Chief Engineer, Rolling Mills. He was posted in Pittsburgh, USA as Technical Director (Projects) of Dastur International, Inc. in 1996. Soon after from July 1999, Pradip has been employed with Morgan Construction Co. as the Sales Manager, Rolling Mills – stationed at Worcester with his family since October 2000.
