Press Release 01/31/2008
The Hindu American Foundation (HAF), a non-profit advocacy group for the 2 million strong Hindu American community, invites you to attend our initial Awareness and Education Campaign Fundraiser in Boston, MA on Sunday, February 24 from 12 – 3pm at the MATCH Public Charter School (1001 Commonwealth Ave).
What Does HAF Do? HAF educates leaders in government, academia and media about Hinduism and domestic and international issues of concern to Hindu Americans such as: • Human rights • Public expression of religion • Portrayal of Hinduism in academia and media • Fraudulent conversion • Hate speech
What is Unique about HAF? HAF is the only Hindu organization to establish headquarters in the DC area, hire fulltime paid staff, and represent Hindus at the U.S. Supreme Court. The uniqueness of HAF lies in that: • It is run by 2nd generation Hindu Americans who effectively work within the constructs of the American legal and political systems • Its Board of Directors and Executive Council include physicians, lawyers, and business professionals • It is not tied to the politics of India nor is it highly focused on spiritual growth
What has HAF Accomplished? Over the past five years, HAF’s accomplishments include: • Working for the successful passage of the Congressional Diwali Resolutions • Winning a lawsuit against the CA State Board of Education for misrepresentation of Hinduism in textbooks • Releasing three annual human rights reports focusing on countries where Hindus as minorities face violations • Releasing the first ever report on internet hatred against Hinduism
We Hope You Will Join Us! The HAF team hopes that you will join us on February 24 to learn more about our Foundation and how you can help support the Hindu American voice that we are actively building. Please contact our office at 301.770.7835 or office@HAFsite.org to RSVP.
