Chitra Parayath // SAHELI, the premier organization that offers friendship and support to South Asian women, keeping with their tradition of service, now offers ESL and Citizenship classes for adults at practically no cost. “We have lawyers who charge up to $500 for similar services volunteering to do this at absolutely NO COST to SAHELI and the students enrolled. We are grateful to Monica Khant, our lawyer volunteer and also to the teachers for giving their time and energy for this worthy cause.” Rita Shah, herself a tireless SAHELI volunteer said that students of the past classes have been all praises for the program. “Our only problem is that we have not been able to reach out and tell more people about this program. I am sure there are Lokvani readers who would like their parents or relatives who have a problem with the English language to make use of this opportunity. Besides, Burlington is such a central town, easy to reach.” Rita urged all to visit the Recreation center located at 61 Center Street in Burlington on September 15 and talk with SAHELI volunteers. SAHELI will also host a Medical camp with free medical screenings, tests, consultations etc. on the 5th of October. Cardiologists and other specialists will be at hand to advice and offer modes of treatment to the general public. This will take place in the Framingham Town Hall. Everyone who comes there will be looked at regardless of whether they have medical insurance or not. For information about these events , please contact 1 866 4 SAHELI, or email banerjee@emmanuel.edu. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
