Lee Leffler 11/27/2007 Have
you ever walked into a building and felt immediately comfortable and
happy? Every building has an influence on its occupants. Maharishi
Vedic ArchitectureSM uses ancient design principles from India to create buildings that bring health, happiness and good fortune. In New England, five Maharishi Sthapatya VedaSM
homes have been built, and the construction of several Maharishi Vedic
Architecture institutions is underway. These buildings include a
Maharishi Enlightenment Center in Weston, CT and the Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge in Antrim, NH. The knowledge (Veda) of establishing form (Sthapatya) is described in the ancient Sanskrit texts, Manasara and Maya Mata.
These texts apply to all man-made objects. Architectural design and
construction and community design can all be based on this knowledge.
In the 1990s, the surviving pieces of the ancient Vedic system were
restored to their wholeness and unified by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the
founder of the Transcendental Meditation® program. Fundamental patterns and relationships are found everywhere in Nature. These same structuring principles are used in Vedic Architecture to design homes, offices and cities that promote success for the people who live and work there. Research on the scientific validity of Maharishi Vedic Architecture is underway. Meanwhile, people who live and work in buildings designed according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda find that they: People who live in homes built according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda have said: "I felt so good inside that I didn't want to leave." "These homes definitely have a way of growing on you. I couldn't stop smiling." "It
makes sense to me that the rooms in the house should be placed in
certain locations. I loved the kitchen with all its bright sunlight and
energy." "My wife is always
happy...there's an openness where one doesn't feel excluded from the
exterior. There are lots of windows and views everywhere. I never take
it for granted, and feel a sense of gratitude to have found this place.
It soothes the soul." Four main principles are considered for every building: Orientation—Every
house faces due east or due north, and is oriented exactly to the
earth's equator and the axis of the north and south poles. Placement—Each room in the home is carefully placed to resonate with the different energies of the sun as it moves across the sky. Proportions—The mathematical proportions of the house and each room are calculated according to ancient Vedic formulas. Natural Materials—Natural
and non-toxic materials are used to avoid the hazards of toxic
materials and construction methods prevalent in modern architecture. Auspicious and inauspicious directions for a building's entrance. Tony
Lawlor, an architect who designs Maharishi Sthapatya Veda buildings has
said, "The desire to have a home is one of the most fundamental human
desires. And yet people are realizing that a more expensive and more
complex house doesn't necessarily create that sense of home. So
inevitably in their search for a true home, people will come to
Maharishi Vedic Architecture." For more information, visit these websites: Maharishi Global Construction, The Transcendental Meditation website, Maharishi's Programmes in India. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
