“My daughter is a currently a sophomore in college. We attended these seminars during her high school years.  This seminar helped us chart a course for our daughter's high school years which eventually led to her getting into the school of her choice. We got great advice on what activities to engage in during high school years, test taking strategies, essay writing and most importantly the timeline. It also helped dispel many myths about the admissions process. I would strongly urge parents and children to attend this workshop” says Anil Saigal, co-founder of Lokvani.com and Professor of Mechanical Engineering who initiated these seminars on behalf of Lokvani in 2002. Saigal greatly believes in the value of these seminars in demystifying the college admissions process for South Asians where the parents have not been to college in the US.

In 2006 the seminar got a new life when IAGB partnered with Lokvani to offer this service. “This was a new initiative for IAGB.  Providing critical information about what college admissions process entails and how to prepare high school students to navigate through,  is arguably one of the most important services we can provide to  our community.  This event is our way to give back to the community that IAGB represents, about 55,000 in Greater Boston area,” says Sunil Mhaskar, who serves on the executive committee of IAGB and has been spearheading this effort on behalf of IAGB

This year the event has been ramped up further with a major sponsorship by The Princeton Review, one of the pre-eminent companies that helps student improve their performance on standardized testing including SATs and provides support for the college admission process will be also be present at the event.

“We hope to outline the timeline for the admission process that really begins at the freshman year and goes all the way up to senior year.” says Kyle Matis, Director of Marketing for The Princeton Review. “I would strongly urge people to attend this event for as far as college admissions are concerned it is certainly one of best events. You get to get hear from admission officers from leading schools like MIT, Tufts, BU and Bentley College.  In addition to getting general information on admissions, you also have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with admission officers in a very comfortable setting. Best of all it is free” says Matis. “The Princeton Review prides itself on providing programs that suit the student’s individual needs. We understand that each student is very unique. Members of the Princeton Review will also be available to answer questions on an individual basis” .
