On Saturday, October 27, 2007 India Society of Worcester (ISW) recognized the talented youth of Worcester community by awarding them one time scholarship.  The awards were presented by ISW President Mrs. Meera Gupta during annual ISW Diwali function.   Six candidates were chosen to receive the awards.  Three candidates, Jyotsna Muller, Abhinav Navani, and Sumana Setty received the award for their excellence in Academics.  Other three candidates, Puja Mehta, Divya Aggarwal, and Ambika Melville received the Citizenship award for their extraordinary services to the community.

ISW established a scholarship committee in 1990 to recognize the youth of our society by presenting them scholarship awards.  The scholarship committee consists of a chairperson and three members.  Each year the committee invites the students to apply for scholarship awards.  All the applications are comprehensively evaluated by three judges individually to find the best candidates to receive the awards.  A charter of rules is prepared and posted on ISW website.

Funding for the scholarship program is provided by several sponsors, including contributions made by individuals.  At present, ISW has six lifetime sponsors, EClinicalWorks of Westborough (sponsored 2 scholarships), Dr. Mohan Somasudaran, the host of Saptaswar radio program, and families of Mr. Kuldeep Rana, Mr. Shri Garg, Dr. Satya Mitra, and Dr. Sahdev Passey.  Few other sponsors have expected to to sponsor additional scholarship awards, therefore the committee expects to increase the number of scholarships for the next year to 10.  ISW would like to extend its gratitude to all the sponsors who have made this program a great success over the last 15 years.

ISW Scholarship Committee Chairperson Shri Garg said "I would like to thank the judges, Mr. Prabhakar Jain, Mr. Hersh Verma, and Mr. Arun Basil for their dedication and time in evaluating all the application.  They are also members of the committee.  All the applicants are award worthy; therefore it was very tough for the judges to select only six candidates.  I thank all the applicants for participating and making the program a big success".
