Meena Sundaram 10/01/2007 (This article is sponsored by Sounds Of India) After Farah Khan’s successful debut as director in the film†Main Hoon Naâ€, here comes her second directorial venture “ Om Shanti Om†. Starring her friend and favorite actor Shah Rukh Khan, Om Shanti Om also stars Shreyas Talpade, Kiron Kher, Arjun Ramphal and introduces Deepika Padukone ( Ace badminton champ Prakash Padukone’s daughter who is a model) First the facts: Lyrics are by Javed Akhtar and music is by Vishal-Shekhar. 1.Ajab Si: This song is a romantic ballad with a unique lilt to it. The lyrics are exquisite (composed by Vishal) and the song is serene and romantic. Kay Kay does full justice to the nuances of the tune and the overall effect is awesome. “ Dil ko bana de jo patang saansein teri woh hawaein hainâ€. If I had to describe this song in one word: PERFECTION! 2. Dard-e Disco: So what’s with the title? Looks like a tongue-in –cheek joke here. A Middle Eastern groove strikes up and Sukhvinder Singer jumps in with his powerful vocals. From then on, there is no turning back. SUKHVINDER rules this song!! Foot-tapping beat and crazy lyrics, it’s a song to dance to! 3: Deewangi: Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chauhan join forces in this number. It is a hummable song that probably will work in the movie. It is pretty OK. 4: Main Agar Kahoon: Another romantic number with the dulcet voices of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal, this song is a treat to listen to. Waltz along with this piece! 5: Soona Lage: The obligatory dard-bhara song, Rahet Fateh Ali Kahn and Richa Sharma belt it out. The music is OK, the singers are great! 6: Dhoom Tana: A throwback to the 70’s the beginning of the song with the dhol beat is a clone of the famous Daphliwale song. There is a genre-change with some Teesri-Manzil type music in the middle. Abhijeet does an excellent job with both styles. Shreya Ghosal is adequate. 7: Daastan-e-Om Shanti Om: This song is based on “ Ek Hasina Thi†from Karz in that that it tells a story, not a saga. Shaan gamely plows ahead, but the song suffers from too many words. It is somewhat of a discourse rather than a song. There are a bunch of remixes, which are nothing to speak about. Meena Sundaram performs on October 4th at Tazza Cafe, 250 Westminster Street, Providence, RI with the Bangalore Drums and Wire Orchestra. www.bangaloremusic.net,bangaloreband@comcast.net www.bangaloremusic.net • bangaloreband@comcast.net www.bangaloremusic.net • bangaloreband@comcast.net You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
