NEHTI committee on Youth Cultural and Educational program

DURGA KRISHNAN, primary disciple of Dr.Chittibabu, is a certified
teacher of Carnatic Music. Durga holds the degree "Sangeetha Vidwan"
She has composed, arranged, directed and played for several music
productions such as Sakunthalam, Ramayanam, Dasavatharam and Festivals
of India by the dance teachers in the local area. She has been
performing solo concerts and also concerts with other artists in and
around Boston and across U.S.A. and in Canada. Besides numerous lecture
demonstrations on Carnatic music and Veena, history and development in
universities including Harvard and Tufts and Berklee College of Music,
Durga also collaborates with Western classical violinists and Jazz
artists. She has been performing fusion concerts with Marc Rosie who is
a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he teaches
classical jazz and music in their World Music Department. Durga
has arranged several successful concerts and workshops by the
most famous artists from India and is one of the key organizers of the
three day Music Conference that has been very successfully organized by
the LearnQuest Academy of Music PRASANT RADHAKRISHNAN is a
versatile saxophonist identified with both the South Indian Classical
(Carnatic) and Jazz disciplines. He received initial training from
veena vidwan, Mrs. Vijaya Prabhakar. Prasant started learning Carnatic
music on saxophone under the able guidance of his guru, "Padmashri"
Kadri Gopalnath, in 1996. He underwent rigorous training during summers
in India, and soon began accompanying his guru in concerts and
performing solo.Since then, Prasant has given numerous solo concerts
internationally, including regular concerts at the Chennai December
music season in leading sabha organizations. His two albums, Swara
Sudha and Duality, have received critical acclaim and wide appreciation
from listeners. Prasant has accompanied his guru in over 200 concerts
within India and in the US, putting him in the company of not only Sri
Kadri Gopalnath, but also with several of the most senior accompanying
artists in the field of Carnatic music.Not limited by genres, Prasant
has also been greatly influenced by the Jazz tradition
TARA Anand Tara Anand, an accomplished violinist and vocalist in
the Carnatic tradition, began vocal training at the age of four. Her
gurus have included esteemed artists such as T.M.Tyagarajan,
K.V.Krisnan and Shankara Sarma. She began violin at the age of eight
with Mrs.Vedavalli Ramaswami of Delhi and Mrs.T. Rukmini of Madras. She
gave her first vocal concert at the age of eight and subsequently
performed with some very great artists such as T.R.Subramaniam,
M.L.Vasanthakumari, Prof.Ramanathan, Sudha Raghunathan, Nookala China
Satyanarayana, R. Vedavalli, Sikkil Mala, R. K. Srikantan and Ravikiran
to mention a few. Tara has received numerous awards from the Music
Academy and Krishna Gana Sabha in Madras, including Best . Junior
Artist for three years in a row. She has also played solos with her
Guru Smt.T. Rukmini. She has been teaching music - both vocal and
violin - for over 15 years and is one of the most sought after teachers
in the area. Her teaching is marked by exacting standards, care and
concern for her students and an infectious love of music; she is a
community treasure. Her students have done extremely well at the annual
Cleveland competitions and won numerous awards over the years. She
received the prestigious "Teacher of the Year " award at the Cleveland
Aradhana, 2005. Dr. PRAVIN SITARAM. hails from a family
in Mumbai that is steeped in Carnatic music tradition. Introduced
to mridangam at the age of 8, Pravin has learnt this art from his
Guru, Shri P. S. Parameswaran - a disciple of the legendary
Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer. He has also received advanced training
under Shri Palghat Raghu in Mumbai. Pravin is noted for his
pleasing accompaniment and unobtrusive support of the main performing
artist. Pravin has accompanied several artistes, both
local and visiting, of outstanding caliber and repute, the likes of
whom include, the late Dr. Chitti Babu, Shri S. R. Janakiraman, Lalgudi
Shri GJR. Krishnan, Lalgudi Smt. Vijayalaksmi, Mysore Manjunath, Guitar
Prasanna, Sikkil Mala and Flute Raman – to name a few. Very
recently, Pravin had the opportunity to accompany Sangeetha Kalanidhi
Smt. R. Vedavalli in Mumbai. Pravin also teaches students
over the past seven years. His students have participated and won
prizes at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. He is a member of
the faculty at the LearnQuest Academy of Music. A Doctorate in
Polymer Chemistry he manages a materials research group for a reputed
automotive industry supplier in Massachusetts. MAHALINGAM
SANTHANAKRISHNAN (Mali) is a disciple of Sri P. Srinivasa Iyer of
Madras. Mali hails from the prestigious Mridangam school of Padmashri
Palghat T.S. Mani Iyer. Mali's forte is his seamless accompanying style
that supports and embellishes the main artist's rendering of
compositions and improvisations. He has also taken advanced lessons
from Padmashri Palghat R. Raghu, when Sri Raghu visited the US. Mali
has accompanied several local artists as well as visiting artists from
India like Sri T.R.Subramaniam, Shri R.K. Shrikantan, Smt. R.
Vedavalli, Sri R. Prasannna, Alapuzha Sri. Venkatasan, Sri. V.
Subramaniam, Smt. Revathi Ramaswamy, Smt. Tara Anand, Sri V.K. Raman,
Sri Vittal Ramamurthy to name a few. He has also performed in world
music concerts notably with Sri Sandip Burman and Shri R. Prasanna.
Mali works and teaches Mridangam in the Boston area.
