Apurva Avsar - A Mesmerizing Gujarati Play

Manoj Shah has done it again. After plays like Master Phoolmani and Mareez, he is back with Apurva Avsar, a play designed to extol the literary, cultural and in this case the philosophical grandeur of the Gujarati intelligentsia. Apurva Avsar, a mesmerizing Gujarati play, dramatizes the events in the life of Raichand or Srimad Rajchandra; the 19th century (1867-1901) Gujarati poet, seer and philosopher. The Audience will witness how young foreign return barrister is inspired by a Shreemad and became Mahatma Gandhi.

An Audience of 5,000 people watched it and gave the play Apurva Avsar and its star Dharmendra Gohil standing Ovations!! Such is the power of play and performances that all non Gujarati speaking audience members sit thru the play. It is almost like sitting through a discourse on great people and the great lives that they led.

So while you are left to marvel at the things achieved by Shrimad  Rajchandra in his short life there is nothing that demands a more active audience participation. There are moments of a philosopher’s dilemma with life and the nature of things and of his inner turmoil that resurfaces time and again. The dramatization is exclusively devoted to the greatness of this man who was a child prodigy and who went on to achieve moksha.
