"Baisakhi is an age old Punjabi tradition. It is a spring festival to celebrate the Harvest season" says Ravi Chaudhury founder of Bollywood Talent, who hopes to bring the spirit of Baisakhi to downtown Boston. Baisakhi Mela, a weekend long event to be held on the weekend of April 21 2007 kicks off with free admission to the Baishaki Mela fair to be held at the Boston Center for the arts, with vendors coming from across the Northeast to offer all the best of Indian specialty food, artwork, clothing and other exclusive Indian products. “You can find interesting items like Ghanne Ka Raas and Kulfi along with a wide variety of other popular food items” says Chaudhury.

Bollywood Talent has also run some preliminary talent show competitions. While the finalists will perform at the evening event at the John Hancock Hall, the others will perform during the day at the Mela.  “Some of the fine Indian dance groups from college campuses including MIT’s Chamak and UMASS’s Dhadak have made it to the finals” says Chaudhury. “Unlike previous years, this year’s talent show is focused and we have only high school and college groups compete. We also do not have solo competitions. We have selected an excellent panel of judges including theater personality like Chandu Shah and other and we promise that the judging will be fair and transparent”

The Bollywood Talent event will also feature a beauty pageant where Ms India New England will be crowned. The famous Indian Bhangara stars, Mona Singh and Hans Raj Hans will perform at the evening event along with the local groups.
“We also have a wonderful pre and post party events. People who have won at our previous events have gone to make a career in the movies. Kunal Sharma who was the winner in the first talent show is now having a career in Hollywood” says Chaudhury
