about their culture while doing service in the community. The youth group
has been around for about 15 years and is now under the advisement of Mr.
Shri Garg. IYG's Showcase
Nikhil Shah, a highschool senior and the President of the youth group says “India 2007 is a cultural show where kids can showoff their dancing or singing talents in front of their friends and family. This show is all set up only by IYG members and the only adult involved in it was Mr. Garg. We have some great dances planned for the program and it's only $5 per person, and children under 6 are free.
Shri Garg, advisor for the group, summed it thus. "Showcase
India is an annual event of Indian Youth Group (IYG). The purpose of
this program is to raise the funds for IYG that are used by IYG to
provide community service. The program is a Indian Cultural program.
The major item of the show are singing, dancing, music, comedy skits,
etc. All of the program are presented by local artists of the
community. These artists may not be members of IYG and their is no age
restriction of the participants. We try to provide best atmosphere for
performance to the artist with high quality of music system, lights and
appropriate stage. Since artists can present their items in best
quality, this show becomes a very high quality show. Since it is fund
raising event, there is an entry fee of 5 dollars per person. Children
of age 5 or younger and all participants can get free entrance".
Indian Youth Group is a unique organization started by Mrs.
Carolyn Passey in 1993. Youth of ages 13 and above who are still in
school can become the member of organization. There is no fee for any
member to join and there are no strict rules. Anyone can join at any
time and may leave any time. There is Executive Committee that is
elected every year in the month of July. During this election, members
also elect an adult Advisor who is responsible to support the
organization in all respects. The Advisor let Executive Committee make
all the decision but can interfere if something is not appropriate and
guides the youths in proper direction. Advisor must be present in all
of the IYG activities as a Chaperon also unless he/she appoints someone
else to fulfill the requirement.
IYG always welcome new members because all the senior members
leave the organization and go to college. New members are encouraged
to realize their role in community. They are supported to lead the
programs of IYG. IYG has no limitation of its programs. Any member
who want to do any community service or any other related projected can
get a steady platform and support from whole IYG. They can become the
chairperson of any program which leads them to learn project management
and leadership.
IYG runs under the umbrella of India Society of Worcester
(ISW). The home of IYG is the same as of ISW, which is, India Center,
